Keyboard Fantasies: The Beverly Glenn-Copeland Story

As a black queer person in 1961 when queernes was a penalty, Beverly Glenn-Copeland was an outsider as one of the first black students at a prestigious Canadian university studying classical music. 20 years later in 1984, after several releases but no momentum as an artist, he buys a computer and creates the electronic new age and folk leaning album ‘Keyboard Fantasies’. He presses 200 tapes and sells 50. Nothing really happens. Ahead of his time, ‘Keyboard Fantasies’ and Copeland lingers unknown to the world. In 2015 he is contacted by a Japanese music lover. He wants to buy every copy of the album he can get. This event sees a turning point I Copelands life as the album is exposed to influential contemporary electronic musicians. The documentary follows Beverly in 2019, now in his 70s, on his biggest tour ever playing to young audiences who have just discovered his music. The film features interviews and live performances that shows just why this charismatic, spiritual and youthful trans elder is being hailed as a cult icon and a pioneer.
